Is your website costing you customers?
Type in your website address. I'll check it on phones and computers, plus speed, security and Google — and tell you in plain English what to fix.
Want a better one? See it before you pay.
I'll build a free mockup of a new version of your site so you can see exactly what it could look like. No obligation.
Good to know
This is a quick technical check of the one page you enter. It may not work well for:
- Sites that block automated visitors — some security tools turn me away, and you'll see "couldn't open that website."
- Sites built mostly with scripts — if the page loads its content with JavaScript, I can miss your phone number or contact form.
- Facebook, Instagram or Yelp pages — those aren't websites of your own, so I'll tell you that instead of scoring.
- Pages behind a login, or sites that are down — I can only see public pages.
- Very heavy pages — I stop reading after about 1.5 MB.
It also can't judge how your site looks or whether it brings you customers — it checks the technical basics only.
What the free website checker looks at
The checker reads the page you enter the way a customer and Google would, then scores it out of 100. Here is what it checks, in plain English.
Does it work for customers?
- Loads and is secure: the site opens and uses the https padlock. Browsers warn visitors away from sites without it.
- Works on phones: most local customers find you on a phone, so the site has to fit a small screen and adjust to computers too.
- Phone number and contact: your number is easy to find and there is a way to reach you. Visitors leave fast when they can't find either.
- Clear call to action: a Call or Book button near the top tells people what to do next.
Is it fast?
- Phone speed: a Google speed test for phones.
- Load time: how long the page takes to arrive. Every extra second loses visitors.
Can Google understand it?
- Page title and search description: the words shown in Google results.
- Clear main headline: tells Google and visitors what the page is about.
- Picture descriptions and page language: help search engines and visitors using screen readers.
- Looks current: sites that look abandoned lose trust.
- Looks good when shared: a proper share image for Facebook and texts.
How the score works
Each check is worth points, and the checks that matter most to customers count the most. Your score is the points earned out of the points possible. 85 and up is in good shape, 60 to 84 is decent but leaking customers, and below 60 means several basics are missing. The list you see afterward shows exactly which items cost you points and how to fix each one.
Website checker questions
Is the website checker really free?
Yes. It is free, takes about 30 seconds and needs no signup or credit card. Type in your website address and you get a score out of 100 plus a plain-English list of what to fix.
What does the free website checker look at?
It checks whether your site loads, uses a secure https connection, works on phones, loads fast, has a proper page title and search description, shows a phone number and a way to contact you, looks up to date, and has a clear headline, picture descriptions, a share image and a clear call-to-action button.
How is my website score calculated?
Each check is worth a set number of points, with the most important ones for customers (phone-friendly, easy-to-find phone number, contact method, speed, security) counting the most. Your score is the points you earned out of the points possible, shown as a number from 0 to 100 and a letter grade from A to F.
What is a good website score?
85 and above means your site is in good shape. 60 to 84 is decent but likely leaking customers. Below 60 means several basics are missing, which are usually fixable quickly.
Why does my site score low on speed?
Speed is measured two ways: a Google speed test for phones, and how long the page takes to load. Large uncompressed photos, too many scripts and slow hosting are the most common causes.
Does the checker work for any website?
It works on public websites. It cannot check pages behind a login, sites that block automated visitors, or social media pages such as Facebook, Instagram or Yelp, because those are not websites of your own. Sites that load their content with JavaScript may be scored less accurately.
Does the checker store or change my website?
No. It only reads the public page you enter. Nothing on your site is changed.
What should I do if my website scores low?
Start with the items marked in red, which are listed in plain English with a suggested fix. If you would rather have it handled, Webformer builds custom websites for small businesses in Greenville, SC and across South Carolina, and will send a free mockup of a new version of your site first.
